as voted by readers of Holidays with Kids Magazine

World Heritage-listed K'gari (Fraser Island), the world's largest sand island, is a rare and beautiful holiday destination at the start of the Great Barrier Reef, offering a refreshing change from the bustle of mainland Australia and the resort islands of Queensland’s north.

Kingfisher Bay Resort is the perfect place to stay and unwind on island time.  Voted as one of Australia's Top 10 family resorts, in the Holidays with Kids Magazine Readers' Choice Awards, Kingfisher Bay Resort has also won six Australian Tourism and nine Queensland Tourism Awards as well as Trip Advisor's 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 Travellers' Choice. Blending seamlessly amongst the native surrounds, this hidden paradise is the ideal base to explore the many natural wonders the island has to offer.

There's a huge range of facilities on offer including four lagoon-style swimming pools, outdoor hot tub,  Island Day Spa, The Village Store for your island essentials including grocery items, resort wear plus ice and fuel for four-wheel-driving, gift shop, guest laundry and playground.

The team at Kingfisher Bay Resort has developed a series of immersive and ranger-guided activities that appeal to all ages... canoe paddling along the western bay, soothing treatments at the Island Day Spa, cruise with the Humpbacks, Segway adventures, ranger guided presentations and walks, sunset cruises, tennis court, archery, beach cricket, volleyballs, soccer balls, board games, Laser Skirmish and watersports... the list is endless.

A wide selection of accommodation options are available from standard hotel rooms, resort rooms with bay views, family rooms, 1, 2 & 3 bedroom villas (some with spa) and holiday houses. Nestled into the island's landscape, the rooms are linked by walkways that meander through the surrounds while still a short stroll to the centre complex.

Translated to "paradise" by the Traditional Owners of the land, the Butchulla people, K'gari is a wonder of diverse landscapes and unique wildlife experiences. From idyllic white beaches and spectacular sunsets across the bay to crystal clear freshwater lakes and creeks, there is an endless list of things to do and explore. Slip into island living and explore the hundreds of tracks which criss-cross the world's largest sand island. Immerse yourself in the ancient rainforests, which flourish in dune valleys, coloured sand cliffs on Seventy-Five Mile Beach or the mirrored lakes, ringed with gold, which tempt even the most reluctant swimmers.
